GMC Granite Concept Small Crossover

The american car manufacturer the latest company that's interested in the segment, as GMC chief Duncan Aldred revealed in a statement to Automotive News: "That segment has grown so fast. I keep telling everyone, 'How can General Motors' truck brand not be in the fastest-growing segment in the industry, an SUV segment?"

The man knows first hand about the advantages of such a vehicle in the line-up, as he's the guy managing Buick and has seen how the Encore's sales figures grew significantly in the U.S. market. So, the reasons for GMC to consider a similar product keep piling up, especially as Aldred thinks that a possible small crossover won't overlap with Buick's offerings, but instead help the brand grow and develop: "If the first thing we do is ask, 'Well, hasn't Buick got one?' Then we're constantly suppressing one brand for another."

If there's anything selling like hotcakes in the automotive business, it's crossovers; the segment becoming highly appealing and profitable for almost every car maker. In fact, the best thing about them, especially the compact and subcompact genre, is that they're achievable to manufacture without requiring a considerable investment (it beats coming up with a supercar, that's for sure).
